Cultural Connections

Our first iteration of the Cultural Corners launched on September 16th. This year, we’re featuring languages spoken around the world, highlighting interesting facts, a map, and vocabulary for students to learn. Make sure to check out these fantastic corners, surrounding our library!

At OFE, we know that our students love learning and Cultural Corners, and we love to see family involvement... so we are sharing some simple translations and interesting facts for kiddos to learn with you at home!

Take a moment to share some of the interesting facts with your kids over dinner to help spark conversations and create opportunities for cultural discussion and exchange.

OFE International Day

Saturday, January 25th, 2025

The Cultural Connection Committee, launched by the PTA in 2022, celebrates the incredible cultural diversity of our school community.

We are fortunate to have families with roots from all over the globe. This initiative offers a wonderful opportunity to introduce our children to new cultures, fostering open minds and deeper connections.

This year, along with our Cultural Corners showcasing the many languages spoken worldwide, we are thrilled to host OFE International Day on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, from 10 AM to 1 PM.

Over the past two years, more than 400 members of our school community came together to explore global cultures, enjoy exciting performances, and taste delicious foods prepared by our amazing country hosts. Let’s make 2025 even better!

International Day will feature many activities, but we need your help with two key areas:

1. Country Display

Set up a table highlighting a country’s culture in a way that engages and excites kids. This is a chance to showcase your culture and share what makes it special!

Examples of what to include:

• Cultural artifacts

• Maps, games, or language cards

• Traditional foods (always a big hit!)

• Instruments, clothing, or posters

• Books by authors from that country

• Slideshow presentations

We will provide one table per country. If multiple volunteers choose the same country, we’ll group you together to collaborate. You’re welcome to represent more than one country if you have ties to multiple cultures!

Important Notes:

• You do not need to participate in the Talent Show to host a country table.

• Volunteers must supply their display items and handle table setup and cleanup.

2. Talent Show (Optional)

If you or your child would like to showcase a cultural talent, we’d love to feature you in our talent show! Performances can include:

• Dances

• Songs

• Poetry readings

• Any other cultural presentations

Space is limited, and signing up for the Talent Show is not required to host a country table. Performers will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis.
