The FunRun is one of two fundraisers that we have at our school. The proceeds we earn pay for our PTA operating budget for the year.
Some of the items our budget covers are:
- Teacher Supply Reimbursements
- Field Trips
- Hygiene Supplies
- Texas Kids Triathlon
- Science Supplies
- Respect and Inclusiveness Assemblies
- Arts in Education Series
- and much much more…
So….
What you would do right now:
Start thinking about people who will want to make a pledge for your child. Grandparents, co-workers, neighbors, friends from church, friends that have kids at other schools (you’ll repay the favor, because we are all in this together)
Then:
The big kickoff is on September 26. This happens while your child is at school and you don’t need to come for this.
After the kickoff, you have 10 days to gather pledges. There will be all kinds of incentives and prizes along the way. Some will be class spe…fic and some will be school-wide.. The kids love it!
October 5th is the big day. The classes will be out in full force, showing their pride and love for their school. They will receive a t-shirt (courtesy of the PTA) which they can wear as a spirit shirt for the rest of the year. Parents are encouraged to attend and to volunteer. We will need help passing out water and doing lap tallies on the kids’ shirts. Most kids can run 35 laps on a short course provided by Boosterthon, who runs and coordinates the entire event for us.
If we meet our school-wide goals, some sort of mayhem will occur in the afternoon. In the past years, it involved a teacher wearing goggles and a trench coat. (SLIME).
In the year of the great HISD budget crunch, we know we did our part to help all the kids at our amazing school, by continuing to provide the programs and support the teachers and staff as we always have and always will do.
