2018-2019 Letter From The President

I love this school!  I have found myself saying that over and over again as I have been part of several orientations, school meetings and new student play dates these past few weeks.  The thing is- it’s so true!  My family is so blessed to be part of such an amazing school that our children will each get to call “home” for 6 years.

Welcome to the new school year!  Hello to the 120+ new families entering our fold and greetings to those that have been part of our family!  Our administration and teachers are ready for another great year at OFE.

Your PTA has been working hard over the summer to gear up for what is sure to be another event filled year.  Hopefully you have already seen our revamped website or shopped on our new ecommerce site– .  Have you taken the time to complete the Top 10 Things To Do Right Now?  If not, you can tackle it now by joining the PTA, filling out your directory information, registering for Kroger rewards and more!

Our first fundraising event of the year- the 4th Annual Fun Run- will be here before we know it (October 5th) and soon after our community building Fall Festival will take place (November 3).  Don’t forget about the biggest adults’ only event of the year- our OFE Auction scheduled for March 1.

You’ll see some changes in the classroom beginning with our new Outdoor Learning partner- Ready to Grow.  With their help, and the ideas of our parents, we are also working to take the arboretum to the next level.  Love gardening?  Let us know.

Let’s not forget, though, that HISD was hit with budget cuts and OFE did not escape them.  Your PTA promises to continue support of many programs in the school so we can continue to maintain our Blue Ribbon Standard of Excellence.  During the 18-19 school year, students will enjoy Accelerated Reader, Writers in the Schools and Dreambox, to name a few.

Everyone told me before my kids entered school that it would fly by and so far, three years have.  So, I leave you with my “words of wisdom.”  Get involved.  Embrace the craziness of your schedule.  Volunteer in the classroom.  Savor the moments doing homework with your child.  All in all- have a great year and enjoy every minute of it.
